New House in Stratford’s ‘Old Town’

Our recently completed project in Stratford-upon-Avon’s Old Town involved the amalgamation of two historic terraced houses into one new high quality dwelling. Situated in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Conservation Area, this site required a development like no others nearby, ensuring it was treated sensitively.

The front facade was retained, which required careful underpinning of the basement, while enhancements were made to the rear, with modern internal features, using large apertures and roof windows to allow great amounts of natural light into the spaces. 3D CAD modelling was utilised to better understand the proportions of the spaces created and we worked with Meer End Joinery who fabricated the feature staircase, as well as other items of furniture.

It was key to ensure that any new materials used were to match the existing buildings, such as using red faced bricks with lime mortar. This process could not be rushed, but ensured that the outcome looked very good and was within keeping.

MRT design is ground breaking

MRT have now broken ground on site for this large, 9100 sqft, contemporary detached house for a private client including annex accommodation. The design which features an exciting plan form and is being built with quarter bonded brickwork, satin pastel feature panels, render, slate roofing, and high quality glazing systems. The project has an anticipated 18 month build programme.

Application at Holder’s Lane, Moseley approved

MRT have been working closely with Birmingham City Council to design a new development of 9 flats in the highly desirable location of Moseley, Birmingham. The new building will replace an existing dwelling and stand as a pavilion in a parkland setting, with clean rendered lines and inset panels of grey brick to accentuate the horizontal proportions of the structure.

Following a recent committee meeting, BCC have recommended the application for approval.

Porton House completed

Porton House is a prominent building along the Birmingham Road in Stratford-upon-Avon which has recently been refurbished. Jones and Hunt Ltd were the client and MRT were the architects, Lead Designers and Principal Designer for the scheme with ROC Associates as the Project Manager and Iris Construction  the Main Contractors.

The first floor was originally office accommodation and ‘Prior Approval’ was granted for a Change of Use to residential (Permitted Development for Change of Use currently until May 2019). The building has a new lease of life with all the apartments having been let by Tim Cox Associates at an average rent of £1100 per month and the ground floor continues to be used for retail and automotive services.
