MRT undertook an office site visit yesterday. The site visit took the team around this large 9100 sqft, contemporary detached house for a private client. The vast open entrance with triangulated roof light provides the clients with a dramatic light filled entrance hall with large open living spaces throughout.
Site visits are a vital part of learning for all members of the team, and it was certainly interesting to see what our colleagues are working on when undertaking detailed design work at the construction management stage.
Contemporary dwelling granted planning permission
MRT have recently obtained permission for this low energy contemporary dwelling located within the West Midlands Green Belt. Positioned on the outskirts of Claverdon this new dwelling has been designed to take full advantage of its elevated position and distant views.
Featuring a simple cuboid form and incorporating a mix of render, weather-boarding, and full-height glazing the building has been designed to provide sensitive and contemporary response to its context.
The building will be constructed utilising a ‘fabric first’ approach to energy efficiency via a highly insulated thermal envelope, triple glazing, and mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) system. Works are due to commence on site within the next few months.

Winter works progress on new dwelling in Welford on Avon.
Construction works to a new dwelling located just outside the conservation area in Welford on Avon are progressing well through the winter weather with Steelhead Developments. The proposed dwelling has a traditional appearance with lias stone and render under a Cotswold stone roof laid to diminishing courses. The plan form is L shaped to maximise the southern solar aspect and take advantage of the views overlooking an orchard. Works are due to complete later this year.
8 months gone and the roof goes on!
Just 8 months into the build for this large, 9100 sqft, contemporary detached house for a private client and the roof trusses are nearly all in place. Cotswold Oak Ltd have made good progress onsite ensuring the build quality is of the highest standard and the intricate trusses have been fabricated by Scotts Timber Engineering. The project has an anticipated 11 months left in the build program.
