New timber framed dwelling in Kings Coughton, Alcester

This contemporary dwelling designed by MRT is situated in Kings Coughton, Alcester on a large plot surrounded by mature vegetation. The clients have undergone a self build journey managing and undertaking a lot of the works themselves with support from specialist contractors.

Due to the challenging ground conditions an insulated raft foundation solution was proposed, this was supplied by CRS Future Build. The timber frame was fabricated off-site by MBC Timber Frame and an external block-work skin was built to carry the render. The composite aluminium / timber glazing was provided by Munster Joinery and oak frame provided by Cotswold Oak Ltd are all triple glazed, providing the home with a high thermal efficiency.

The build once finished will give the clients an efficient and modern family home.  The split roof allows for southern light to filter into the back bedrooms, and continuous mechanical extract ventilation is provided throughout.

The clients are very happy with the build and are in the process of carefully choosing their final finishes, we look forward to seeing their home complete.

MRT team visit new contemporary dwelling site

MRT undertook an office site visit yesterday. The site visit took the team around this large 9100 sqft, contemporary detached house for a private client. The vast open entrance with triangulated roof light provides the clients with a dramatic light filled entrance hall with large open living spaces throughout.

Site visits are a vital part of learning for all members of the team, and it was certainly interesting to see what our colleagues are working on when undertaking detailed design work at the construction management stage.

Contemporary dwelling granted planning permission

MRT have recently obtained permission for this low energy contemporary dwelling located within the West Midlands Green Belt. Positioned on the outskirts of Claverdon this new dwelling has been designed to take full advantage of its elevated position and distant views.

Featuring a simple cuboid form and incorporating a mix of render, weather-boarding, and full-height glazing the building has been designed to provide sensitive and contemporary response to its context.

The building will be constructed utilising a ‘fabric first’ approach to energy efficiency via a highly insulated thermal envelope, triple glazing, and mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) system. Works are due to commence on site within the next few months.
