Private dwelling gets permission to extend in the Cotswolds

MRT Architects have been granted planning permission to extend a beautifully crafted, unique Frank Lloyd Wright inspired property in the Cotswolds.

The proposed works consists of the construction of a single storey side extension to create an enlarged kitchen with vaulted dining area, with a rear ground floor extension proposed to enable the first floor master bedroom to be enlarged. The existing garage will be extended to provide a new car port and garden stores, with considered alterations to the external works and site landscaping as a consequence of the works.

With the property situated in a Conservation Area, the sensitively designed extensions merge with the existing form and materials of the house to provide a harmonious design.

Construction on site is scheduled to start in early summer 2018.

Alterations and extensions granted in Stratford Upon Avon

A extension to an existing garage has been approved by Stratford Upon Avon District Council.

The proposal includes extending the side of the garage (away from the house) and proposing a first floor to accommodate a new bedroom / gym area, TV area and bathroom. The proposal is aimed to enhance and preserve the existing building and its surroundings and has been designed to retain the scale, character and dorm of the town. The design follows in accordance with the ‘Stratford Core Strategy’ and ‘Extending your Home’, and the proposed garage alterations and extension are considered to be subservient to its surroundings and therefore does not detract from the character of the existing property. The design is part of the locally distinctive architecture of the house within its setting in Luddington Road.

New timber framed dwelling in Kings Coughton, Alcester

This contemporary dwelling designed by MRT is situated in Kings Coughton, Alcester on a large plot surrounded by mature vegetation. The clients have undergone a self build journey managing and undertaking a lot of the works themselves with support from specialist contractors.

Due to the challenging ground conditions an insulated raft foundation solution was proposed, this was supplied by CRS Future Build. The timber frame was fabricated off-site by MBC Timber Frame and an external block-work skin was built to carry the render. The composite aluminium / timber glazing was provided by Munster Joinery and oak frame provided by Cotswold Oak Ltd are all triple glazed, providing the home with a high thermal efficiency.

The build once finished will give the clients an efficient and modern family home.  The split roof allows for southern light to filter into the back bedrooms, and continuous mechanical extract ventilation is provided throughout.

The clients are very happy with the build and are in the process of carefully choosing their final finishes, we look forward to seeing their home complete.
