Terraced House in Old Town

A long time ago our clients enjoyed living in a terraced house in Old Town within a few minutes from Holy Trinity Church, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, by the River Avon and all the amenities of historic Stratford upon Avon.

Attracted once more to this Georgian haven, our clients purchased a house adjacent to their previous one and then acquired one more next door with an aim to cojoin all into a single spacious home.  Our brief was to facilitate this ambition and in doing so we obtained listed building consent in the conservation area to alter and extend both buildings after extensive demolition and stitching together!

On the ground floor an integral garage was converted into a spacious entrance hall with cloakroom and glazed doors into a grand sitting room.  Within the centre of the remodelled house is a central lightwell and sculptural oak staircase sat below a glazed lantern capturing daylight and sunshine deep into the interior and basement below.  At the rear, a kitchen dining and family room sit under another glazed roof light all looking through glazed sliding doors into a neat landscaped architectural inspired courtyard.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms vaulted to the underside of the roof with dressing rooms and ensuite bathrooms, offering perfect living areas.

Overall, this is an amazing house in a great location in the centre of Stratford upon Avon offering expansive accommodation with attractive interior design, flooded with natural light and energy.

New Garden outhouse set in the Cotswolds

Completion of a new garden outhouse set in the Cotswolds has been completed.

Following Planning Permission to convert the house into 3 dwellings, 2 were sold, the third retained and a new house was built in the extended garden. The new owners of Cowley House commissioned MRT Architects to build a potting shed for lots of storage requirements.  The single storey L shaped stone outhouse building is an essay in Cotswold vernacular designed to blend effortlessly into the setting of the historic house.

Its functional and pretty at the same time and a joy to the eye.

New Warner’s superstore opened!

MRT are proud to share the news regarding the opening of the new Warner’s superstore! With unilateral praise for the project providing a valuable food resource for the town of Upton on Severn. The store will employ almost 40 people from Upton and the surrounding areas and in addition; in order to achieve a higher level of sustainability, the roof of the building hosts solar panels and the site will also house a gym, which is due to open later in the year.

MRT enjoyed designing and creating a locally distinctive Architecture and landscape for this project which overlooks the river Severn. Click the link here to see a time-lapse of the build.

Grade II 16th Century Listed Barn Conversion

It’s a lovely gesture to be invited to stay in a property delivered from the MRT Architects portfolio of completed projects.

This was a challenging conversion of a redundant Grade II 16th Century Listed Barn adjacent to a grand country house of a Jacobean Estate near Upton-upon-Severn in Worcestershire.

The Client’s brief was to create a living section at one end and a holiday letting part at the other.

After lots of negotiation with English Heritage and Conservation Officers Listed Building Consent was achieved due, we believe, to the carefully considered plans which retained a substantial part of the original features of the barn which were sensitively incorporated into the newly formed domestic interior.  New windows and doors were carefully inserted into existing openings without alteration to the fabric of this important historic structure retaining its character and enhancing the setting in this delightful location in the Severn Valley with a backdrop of the Malvern Hills.

A perfect staycation in this idyllic position in glorious countryside with interiors of great charm and comfort.
